Something Holi- Interpretive
The annual Holi Festival of Colors takes place in the sleepy town of Spanish Fork Utah surrounded by snow-capped peaks of the Uinta National Forest. Each year the town is transformed into a sea of colored powder, where thousands of people gather to celebrate the coming of Spring, and the triumph of good over evil. With the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple standing tall in the background it looks as something you would find in the hills of India, and you would never guess that it would soon be transformed from a peaceful shrine into a chaotic explosion of colors. The participants in the festival wait for a countdown ever 2 hours where in unison everybody throws bags of color.
Initially I came to the Holi Festival in search of colors, however my approach quickly shifted after only a few short hours. While the color was absolutely stunning, I found myself searching for something different. Spirits were high, but the light was flat. Exhaustion set in, and for a moment, creativity waned. I knew I had to wait. In the last hours of the day the sun began to set and the light started shinning through the edges of the temple and the shadows fell ever so nicely. It was only then in the last hours, and the last throw of the festival that the light truly gave me the opportunity to make a frame worthy of the chaos & beauty of nascent spring.

Street photography for me has been a form of determination and style. I started shooting street as a way to get over my fear of people and sharpen my eye for composition. It soon evolved into a way for me to see the world and develop my own style. After shooting street lightly for a month I became addicted to what the streets can offer me. I started to see the isolation of the world that I would feel in my everyday life, along with the celebration of humanity.
The city is seen as a playground, quietly I walk, ready, waiting, chasing the stillness, the traces of human creativity and human connection. Hope and despair inspired by a fondness for everyday life, growth, isolation, fear, judgment and the pure joy and nature of human existence stopped in a frame. These photos serve as a visual stream of consciousness through the cities I walk.
