Draq Queen Florence Konstantina Delight performing a drag show for dussins of spectators online from his apartment in Istanbul during the Covid pandemic. People working in the show business were one of the groups most effected negative economically because of restrictions and closed entertainment venues, especially in Turkey. To cope with the economic challenge Florence started performing shows online, but still struggled to pay the rent. But Florence continued to stay strong and performed shows as a form of protest of the norms in this society. “Even breathing is a form of activism in this society and sometimes it’s even difficult to breathe.” said Florence. In Turkey, a heteronormative society with assigned gender identities and where hate propaganda towards the LGBTQ+ community increases everyday, Florence manages to be a part of all gender identities without defining himself with a specific one. Florence resists this society in a powerful way by embodying a drag queen.
