In early 2022, the fifth wave of Covid broke out in Hong Kong. About 1 million people in Hong Kong have been infected and 9,000 have died from Covid. At least 12,000 infected people are waiting to be admitted to hospitals as COVID-19 cases overwhelm the public health system, resulting in the need for additional temporary beds in outdoor areas of hospitals.
