Avenir Tepishkin (Avik) was born with Down syndrome. Larisa Tepishkina, the mother of five by then, found out about her future baby’s diagnosis while being pregnant and had no doubts about giving birth to him. Soon after that her husband abandoned the family. Two years later Larisa together with parents who have kids with disabilities set up a non-commercial center Dorogoju Dobra [By Means of Good], which unite and support other families, engage medical professionals and volunteers in working with children with different health issues. Larisa is a volunteer herself, just as her two daughters. Now Avik is 14. He goes to school, attends different workshops and goes in for sports. Avik enjoys arts & crafts: there are a wooden tray and a thread cross made by him on the table. Usually Avik plays with his toys, or watches cartoons via tablet, or having fun with his sisters. And sometimes he simply enjoys himself at home.
