During her more than 35 years practicing as a nurse midwife, Alice Liwewe has helped many women bear the pain of labor. Being one of only two nurses at the remote Kapeni Health Center means sacrificing herself to work grueling hours with little recognition. I produced this piece through a partnership between the UNC Chapel Hill School of Media and Journalism and CARE International. It was featured as part of Raising the Score, a multimedia project designed to tell the story of CARE's work to address community concerns and improve maternal health in Malawi.
