The city of Tikrit, Iraq was recaptured by Iraqi forces from ISIS in April of 2015. The Iraqi forces were made up of government and volunteer forces which were both supported by the U.S. and Iran, each in their own way. Tikrit has been one of the few major victories against ISIS since they have declared their Caliphate which stretches across both large parts of Iraq and Syria.
