The Final Admission is an impressionistic expression of mental health issues and how they have been treated in the past—specifically in the 1970’s. These self-portraits, made in an abandoned poor house, explore the many emotions that accompany being put away for one’s own good as well as the day-to-day procedures of the psych wards. Through these images, I show how the treatment used to be in order to give some appreciation to where we are today and how far we have come.
