CPOY 72 Documentary Silver: Last Best Day

Brian Cottle was diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimer’s in April 2012 and his wife Amelia resigned from her full-time job in 2014 to be by his side and care for him at home. Approximately two-thirds of Alzheimer’s caregivers are women. It is estimated that friends and family provide 17.9 billion hours of unpaid care to patients with Alzheimer’s and other diseases of dementia each year. On June 27, 2017, Brian Cottle died at home with his wife Amelia and son Chris by his side. Brain Cottle was 58 years old. The following words that accompany my photographs were written by Amelia Cottle.
