”I have gambled everything, and I’m screwed if it doesn’t work out”, Max Christensen says. He washes his newly purchased boat so the deep red color appears from under the filth. It should be ready for next week when Max’ new adventure begins. Max has been fishing for the last 14 years, but it has only gone downhill due to stricter fishing quotas. Something must be done – and therefore he has become snail fisher as one of the first in Denmark. The hunt is set on the conical shaped whelk snails, which according to Max tastes like hell, but it is a delicacy in China. The kilo price for snails is 1,5 euro, and he has calculated that he must catch at least 1.000 kilograms of snails a day to make profit. "I put snail traps on the seabed loaded with half a task crab and a piece of shark as bait. The snails love it”, Max says, convinced that snails become the new major exportation in the Danish fishing industry.
