CPOY 76 COVID Experience Award of Excellence: The Vaccination of Denmark

The first Covid-19 vaccination took place the 27th of December 2020. When this project was made, half a year had gone since the first danish vaccination and we had 23 percent of the danish population fully vaccinated. But how much do we really know about the vaccines and will we manage to vaccinate almost 6 million people within a year? This project seeks to explore these questions to try and find out more about the vaccines lifespan form the invention in the laboratories to the vaccination of the population and everything in between.

The pharmaceutical company Bavarian Nordic produces vaccines. Among other smallpox, rabies, and ebola vaccines. They are now ready to produce Covid-19 vaccines. They are cooperating with danish AdaptVac to produce their vaccine when they reach clinical trial phase 2, because they need to upscale the production. In clinical trial phase 1 the vaccine are tested on a few number of people. According to the Danish Medicines Agency is it approximately ten people but it varies. If the results are good, you move on to clinical trial phase 2 where the testing is upscaled to more people. These people will often be in a specific target group for the vaccine or medicine needed testing. After this you test in clinical trial phase 3 where the testing is done a great number of people. It is done in a more daily life setting to confirm its effect and to get a more detailed view of it.
