People from all walks of life pass through the Municipal Pantheon 13 cemetery in Tijuana, Mexico, which is quickly expanding as Covid-19 cases rise. The hills are dotted with newly dug graves. The sound of a somber Spanish hymn rings out from an old handheld radio: “A soul lost in poverty—Jesus Christ had mercy on me.” Families weep, mourning the loss of a loved one. The site is bustling with families, cartel members, musicians and workers. This microcosm of society is where everyone comes together to honor the deceased.
