Omar Mohamed, 18 years old - He traveled when he was 16 years old. Omar began his journey from Egypt to Turkey. From Turkey, he boarded a boat with a large group of up to 100 people. He had 19 people from the village with him, and the boat sank. Only 12 of them survived, and all the people of his village were missing except for Omar. This period was torture for me. I did not feel this torture while I was in the boat. I always thought about the boat, and every time I slept, I dreamed about what happened. One of the people with us in the boat came to me in the dream, and I didn't know how to sleep at all. I stay awake and do nothing but think about what happened. A part of me died. With them, during these difficult times, I wished that I had died with them so that I would not suffer all this torment. Omar loves photography, and before he traveled to Italy, he would go out every day at sunrise to photograph the village. Fayoum, Egypt 2023
