“It felt like butterflies jumping around in my stomach,” said Jamie. “It was kind a weird because in a way it tickled and sometimes it hurt.” Jamie realized that she was pregnant when she felt the baby move for the first time. The strange feeling in her stomach both scared and worried her, she dug out an old human anatomy book from her older sister’s closet and realized if what the book said was true that she was not only pregnant but farther along than even she had thought. At the age of 13 years, Jamie had already had two sexual partners. “You can’t tell kids to stop having sex because they’re going to do what they want to,” said Jamie. In the U.S., nearly half (48%) of all high school students in 2007 reported having sexual intercourse and this age group is more likely to not use protection than any other age group. “In my middle school class of like 15 girls, maybe 10 of them were having sex,” said Jamie. “It is crazy, but I can’t say nothing about them because that was me too.”
