Mike Senske, a maintenance worker for a National Wildlife Refuge in New York, says on an average day pre-pandemic, it was typical to see two to five cars in the parking lot. Now, almost every parking lot at the refuge is packed. While he’s happy to see more people getting outside and enjoying nature, Senske said the uptick in visitation has had negative consequences, like an increase in garbage and people straying off trail and making their own paths.
