The indigenous leader Tiago Krikati (left) also takes part on the baptism. David Bailey is the first generation of American missionaries born in Brazil. His parents came to Maranhão in the 70’s to evangelize the indigenous. Tiago says that Jesus saved his life. He was an alcoholic, unemployed and used to beat his wife. Today he works as a teacher in his village’s school and is a missionary pastor trying to get his village converted. CONPLEI, Pastors and Evangelical Indigenous Leaders’ National Council is the organization responsible for organizing and mobilizing the "Third Missionary Wave"a movement that aims the conversion of indigenous led by other indigenous, instead of Europeans or white Brazilians.
