Beyond postcard views, historic ways of life collide with modern reality in Henderson County, North Carolina. This project explores the complex stories of identity, resilience, and reinvention as change sweeps through Appalachia. Since 2004, the Carolina Photojournalism Workshop has captured life in unique locations across the Carolinas. Every year, students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill embed themselves in local communities for a week to produce a documentary website.
