The number of immigrants reaching the United States-Mexico border has surged with the end of the U.S. government's Covid-era Title 42 policy, which for the past three years has allowed for the quick expulsion of migrants entering the country. At the time of the policy's lifting, 25,000 immigrants were in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. These photos document the Yuma, Arizona, and San Diego, California border with Mexico on the night and day after the order lifted.
