Migrants wait to be processed after surrendering to US Border Patrol agents in Yuma, Arizona on Thursday, May 11, 2023. The number of immigrants reaching the U.S. Mexico's border has surged with the end of the U.S. government's Covid-era Title 42 policy, which for the past three years has allowed for the quick expulsion of irregular migrants entering the country. At the time of the policy lifting, 25,000 immigrants were in the custody of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. These photos are from the Yuma, Arizona, and San Diego, California border with Mexico on the night and day after the order lifted.
