Near the shore of Lake Norman, towns large and small are changing rapidly. Rich in history, culture, and art, this area has been at the heart of North Carolina's piedmont for centuries. However, growing tourism and Charlotte's booming economy are reshaping the region. From racing to fishing, crafts to donuts, and through the efforts of activists and community leaders, people are forging a new way to define "home".
Since 2004, students in the Carolina Photojournalism Workshop have been telling stories of people around North Carolina. In one intensive week, students craft short documentary films focusing on individuals, places, and issues that reflect the changing face of North Carolina and the specific region they're exploring. On the seventh and final night, the films are screened for the public and subsequently published on a website. All aspects of the project, including the website, are entirely student-produced.
