Project description: At a boys’ home in Lusaka, 25 former street boys now live together. They carry heavy stories of violence, abuse, and neglect - yet also tales of brotherhood, community, and resilience, where the will to survive has long been their daily driving force. Nsansa means joy in one of Zambia’s local languages. Established in 2014, Nsansa Village Community Development Mission is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that cares for Zambia’s street children by providing education, shelter, healthcare, detox programs, and skills training. At the home, boys aged 6 to 21 share life side by side - they sleep together, attend school together, cook together, and form each other’s family. Most of them have nowhere to go, all of them are determined to build a better life for themselves. Zambia is currently facing a severe social challenge with a rising number of children living and surviving on the streets, particularly in urban centers such as Lusaka. Poverty, high unemployment, and lack of access to social services push families to the breaking point. Many children end up on the street because of domestic violence, neglect, or the loss of parents—often linked to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, which has left thousands orphaned.
