A photographic essay or extended story portraying important contemporary concerns or social issues.
Space and privacy are limited for families living in a motel room. Kathy Brown (top left) has lived with her family of three in Countryside Inn Motel for almost a year. Her husband recently died from a heart attack, so Kathy babysits for some extra money to support her three children. With freedom from paying a deposit and signing a lease, money is not always saved or spent wisely. Money for medicine and food often is compromised for substance abuse habits. Kathy Brown gets paid for babysitting in various ways, primarily in marijuana but occasionally in food. Kathy relaxes after finishing a long day of babysitting for Ms. Ford, a 22-year-old mother of three, who lives in another nearby motel.
