After 20 years, the longest-serving mayor in Jasper’s history, Bill Schmitt, retires. Five terms in office have earned Schmitt a reputation of integrity, dedication to the city and a sense of humor. In his last six months, he wrapped up his most controversial project, said his goodbyes and found himself preparing for life as a citizen of the city he built.
