My mind wandered to summer days when I would don a black cassock, still crusted with candle wax, and the Easter-white surplice, forever too big. We marched the block around Historic St. Joseph’s, holding the Eucharist on high. Barbecues and ball games stopped to watch. No parishioners called this neighborhood home.
