Boy tries to answer a history teacher question during a history class in the Secondary School №1 of Darvag. Republic of Dagestan is the most ethnically and linguistically diverse region in Russia. There are 14 ethnicities, Russians included, officially recognized as indigenous, living within its borders; if couning the sub-ethnic groups with its own language, the total number could go up from 14 to around 30. All the kids in the school are native Azerbaijani speakers. Along with Russian language classes, they have Azerbaijani one as well -- the "mother tongue class". The posters on the wall are written almost exclusively in it.
