An Krikati indigenous forest guardian watches a house built by illegal loggers burn. The Krikati Forest Guardians are indigenous who are protecting the territory against loggers, hunters and other invaders with bad intentions. Their focus is primarily on the environmental monitoring of the territories. They are a permanent channel of communication between villages, lands and peoples, in the search for broader territorial protection and management. The Krikati reserve is located in between the Cerrado and the Amazon forest. The reserve has been going through very tough conflicts. They are being threatened by the PL 490 (a law project that is being voted on that would not recognize their territory anymore). Besides that, there are many other threats to their land, such as illegal hunters, loggers, big energy and mining projects in development. In 2020, the krikati was the indigenous land that burned the most.
