At 16 years old, Abbey Fawcett’s life changed when she went into cardiac arrest during a cheer camp routine. Nearly two months later, she was diagnosed with CPVT, a rare but life-threatening genetic heart condition. This project focuses on Abbey as she navigates recovery, steps into a new role with her team, and refuses to let her bright spirit fade while waiting for clearance to return to the mat. Her story is one of resilience, community, and the power of a team.
Abbey shows her scar from an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) that was surgically placed in October. Abbey was diagnosed with a rare, but potentially lethal, inherited cardiac condition that causes sudden rhythm disturbances which are monitored and corrected by the ICD.
