At 16 years old, Abbey Fawcett’s life changed when she went into cardiac arrest during a cheer camp routine. Nearly two months later, she was diagnosed with CPVT, a rare but life-threatening genetic heart condition. This project focuses on Abbey as she navigates recovery, steps into a new role with her team, and refuses to let her bright spirit fade while waiting for clearance to return to the mat. Her story is one of resilience, community, and the power of a team.
Acadia Gates, left, Abbey, middle, and Lilyana Wills talk about a Snapchat from a friend while driving to place Homecoming signs in the football players’ yards. While unable to cheer, Abbey stays active on the team and with the other girls whenever and however she can.
