Carey Wagner is an award-winning documentary photographer, filmmaker, educator and speaker based in New York City. She currently serves as Immediate Past President of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA).
Before establishing her independent career in 2011, Carey spent a decade as a staff photojournalist and videographer at newspapers in California and Florida, honing her skills in visual storytelling. This experience formed the bedrock of her impactful work.
A two-time International Reporting Project Fellow, Carey has reported on gender-based violence and women's issues for The New York Times and PRI's The World. Her work with CARE on the "Letters of Hope" campaign connected WWII refugees with Syrian refugees. Her cinematography on "The Long Night" won first-place awards from NPPA, World Press Photo, and POYi.
She's a former Nikon School Instructor, is a lead Nikon instructor for CES employees of Best Buy and volunteers as a video coach at WKU Mountain Workshops. Carey holds a B.A. in Cognitive Science and a minor in Spanish and Latin American Literature from the University of California, Berkeley.
